Where the Clinics Are: Tattoo Removal Directory by Country

Cost & Pricing

Two clinics on the same street can quote you very different numbers for the same tattoo. In Melbourne the typical session sits between $50 and $200 (about a 3.9ร— spread, n=89 priced clinics, as of July 2026) โ€” and that gap, not the headline laser brand, is what decides what removal actually costs you. This page maps where tattoo-removal clinics are concentrated across five countries, how dense each city is, and where prices cluster, using only figures from the Tattoo Removal Guide directory.

We publish this as a point-in-time snapshot. Clinic counts move as new listings are added and owners correct their own data, so every number below is stamped (as of July 2026) and traces to the directory's own records.

The headline: same city, very different price

Before the maps, the number that matters most to a reader is the within-city price gap โ€” because it's the one you can act on. Across the largest markets, the typical per-session price (the middle 80% of priced clinics, P10โ€“P90) varies roughly 1.5ร— to 6ร— inside a single city.

City Typical session (P10โ€“P90) Typical spread Priced clinics (n)
Melbourne $50โ€“$200 3.9ร— 89
Sydney $50โ€“$200 4ร— 74
London $80โ€“$180 2.3ร— 43
Toronto $200โ€“$400 2ร— 38
New York $200โ€“$450 2.3ร— 34
Brisbane $50โ€“$300 6ร— 39
Perth $50โ€“$200 4ร— 31

Source: tattooremoval.guide directory, as of July 2026. Prices are "from" per-session figures in each market's local currency, with the P10 and P90 rounded to the nearest $10. Observed maximums run higher than the typical band โ€” London's observed range reaches roughly 12ร— and Brisbane's about 20ร— โ€” but those tails are usually a single premium clinic, so we lead with the typical band, not the outlier.[^1]

Why this matters: most tattoos take 8โ€“12 sessions for most people. A 1.5ร—โ€“6ร— per-session gap compounds across a full course, so the clinic you pick โ€” not the technology label โ€” can change the total bill by a multiple. That's the whole case for comparing before you book.

Where the clinics are: by country

The directory is international. The United States holds just under half the listings; Australia, the UK and Canada are each a sizeable share; New Zealand is smaller but well-covered for its population.

Country Specialist clinics Share of directory
United States 2,682 47%
Australia 1,235 22%
United Kingdom 880 15%
Canada 762 13%
New Zealand 141 2%
Total (T1โ€“T3 specialist) 5,700 100%

Source: tattooremoval.guide directory, as of July 2026. "Specialist" = clinics in tiers T1โ€“T3 that list tattoo removal as a service. Counts span 1,043 cities.

A note on what "specialist" means here: we count clinics that list tattoo removal specifically, not every business that mentions a laser. That keeps the country totals honest and comparable.

Where the clinics are: by city

Clinic supply concentrates in big metros. The ten densest cities in the directory:

Rank City Country Listed clinics
1 Sydney Australia 216
2 Melbourne Australia 215
3 Toronto Canada 151
4 London United Kingdom 118
5 New York United States 118
6 Phoenix United States 117
7 Brisbane Australia 108
8 Birmingham United Kingdom 103
9 Las Vegas United States 101
10 Calgary Canada 88

Source: tattooremoval.guide directory, as of July 2026. "Listed" counts all clinics in the directory for that city.

The leaders by country show how supply spreads:

  • United States: New York (118), Phoenix (117), Las Vegas (101), Los Angeles (87), San Francisco (80).
  • Australia: Sydney (216), Melbourne (215), Brisbane (108), Perth (95), Adelaide (82).
  • United Kingdom: London (118), Birmingham (103), Leeds (47), Manchester (46), Glasgow (44).
  • Canada: Toronto (151), Calgary (88), Vancouver (76), Edmonton (70), Montreal (53).
  • New Zealand: Auckland (42), Tauranga (16), Wellington (14), Christchurch (11).

What density does โ€” and doesn't โ€” tell you

More clinics in a city usually means more choice and more price competition, which is part of why the within-city spread is widest in Brisbane (6ร—) and Perth and Sydney (4ร— each), with Melbourne close behind at 3.9ร—. It does not mean cheaper by default: Toronto and New York are dense yet sit at a higher price floor (around $200/session typical), reflecting local operating costs more than supply.

Two things density won't tell you, and that you should still check per clinic:

  • Price transparency varies, but less than you'd think. Only about 38% of clinics across the directory list a price at all (as of July 2026) โ€” so in many cities you're comparing the minority who publish figures. New York and Sydney, for instance, show pricing for a little more than a third of their listings (34% and 36%).
  • The right laser is tattoo-specific. Picosecond and Q-switched lasers are both effective and widely used; the difference is pulse duration, not one being superior. Adoption is mixed everywhere (directory-wide, roughly 18% of clinics note picosecond and 15% note Q-switched, as of July 2026), so the relevant question is which laser suits your ink and skin โ€” a consultation question, not a city-level one.

Methodology

  • Source. All figures are computed directly from the Tattoo Removal Guide directory's clinic records via the directory's own data scripts (city-stats.py for per-city figures; the directory-wide data facts for country totals).
  • Snapshot date. As of July 2026. Counts are point-in-time and change as listings are added and owners correct their data.
  • Country counts use the specialist tiers (T1โ€“T3): clinics that list tattoo removal as a service, across 1,043 cities.
  • City counts ("listed") include all clinics in the directory for that city; specialist counts are a subset.
  • Prices are advertised "from" per-session figures in each market's local currency, rounded. We report the typical band (P10โ€“P90) to avoid being skewed by a single premium clinic; observed maximums are footnoted, not headlined.[^1]
  • Independence. No clinic pays to rank higher, and no leads are sold. These are descriptive market figures, not endorsements of any clinic.

Frequently asked questions

Which country has the most tattoo-removal clinics?

The United States, with about 2,682 specialist clinics โ€” just under half the directory (as of July 2026). Australia (1,235), the United Kingdom (880) and Canada (762) follow, with New Zealand at 141.

Which city has the most tattoo-removal clinics?

Sydney, with 216 listed clinics (as of July 2026), just ahead of Melbourne (215) and Toronto (151). Density tends to track metro population and the local laser-clinic market rather than any one country leading outright.

Does a city with more clinics mean cheaper tattoo removal?

Not directly. More clinics usually means more choice and a wider price spread, but the price floor is set largely by local operating costs. Dense Australian cities sit at a low floor (Melbourne's typical band is $50โ€“$200/session), while dense North American cities like Toronto sit higher (about $200โ€“$400/session) โ€” both as of July 2026.

Why do prices vary so much within one city?

Per-session prices typically span 1.5ร—โ€“6ร— inside a single city (as of July 2026) because of clinic overheads, laser type, tattoo size and how a clinic packages sessions. Since most tattoos need 8โ€“12 sessions, that per-session gap compounds into a large difference in total cost โ€” which is why comparing clinics in your own city is worth the time.

Are these numbers exact?

They're a point-in-time snapshot from the directory, accurate as of July 2026, and they drift as clinics are added and owners update their listings. Treat the bands and counts as a current map, not a fixed figure, and check the live listing for any clinic you're considering.

[^1]: Observed (un-winsorized) ranges are wider than the typical bands and are usually driven by one premium clinic: e.g. London observed ~$80โ€“$1,000 (n=43) and Brisbane observed ~$50โ€“$1,000 (n=39), both as of July 2026.
